Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

You don’t need to be an expert diver to join a Kaptain Expeditions liveaboard. We welcome divers from Open Water or equivalent level, so you can enjoy real scuba diving expeditions in some of the best destinations in the world.

We strongly recommend an Advanced Open Water certification and a Nitrox course: they improve your dive profile, extend your bottom time and help you make the most of every dive on our expeditions.

We also offer dive courses on board during the liveaboard, including PADI/SSI specialties and certifications, so you can progress while living a real ocean expedition.

On a Kaptain Expeditions liveaboard dive trip, we usually do 3 to 4 dives a day, including night dives on selected itineraries. That makes every day an intense underwater exploration of the best dive sites.

Our scuba diving expedition packages include accommodation on board in a shared cabin, full board, water, tea and coffee, a professional dive guide, tanks and weights.

Dive gear, courses, insurance, Nitrox and extras such as drinks or premium services may cost extra depending on the expedition.

A private cabin is available at an extra cost.

Yes. We offer full dive gear rental on all our expeditions: BCD, regulator, wetsuit, dive computer and more.

We recommend booking in advance to ensure availability and the best fit for your liveaboard diving experience.

Yes. To join any Kaptain Expeditions scuba diving expedition, you must have dive insurance covering accidents and medical evacuation.

Without valid insurance, you will not be allowed to dive, for safety reasons.

Our boats are designed to offer comfort in the middle of the adventure. Cabins on our dive liveaboards have air conditioning, comfortable beds and, in most cases, a private bathroom.

Common areas, jacuzzi, terrace.

We offer different cabin categories to suit different travel styles: standard, superior and suites.

Internet access may be limited during a dive expedition at sea.

Some boats offer satellite Wi-Fi at an extra cost. We recommend using the trip to disconnect completely and fully immerse yourself in your dive journey.

You can also buy a local SIM card to stay connected in the country.

Every Kaptain Expeditions liveaboard offers unique encounters with marine life: sharks, mantas, turtles, schools of fish, vibrant reefs and pelagic species. We are always looking for the best encounters, although as a good diver you know that sightings of certain species can never be 100% guaranteed.

Our itineraries are designed to maximize the chances of encounters with large marine species.

The best season for a scuba diving liveaboard depends on the destination and on what the diver is looking for (marine life, visibility, sea conditions).

At Kaptain Expeditions we help you choose the best dates for your dive trip based on your level and what you want to see underwater.

Safety is the number one priority on all our liveaboard dive expeditions. The itinerary may be adjusted depending on weather and sea conditions.

Our team on board will always look for the best available dive sites to ensure the best possible experience.

Yes, absolutely. At Kaptain Expeditions, non-divers are welcome on board our liveaboards.

Although diving is at the heart of the experience, you can also enjoy plenty of activities such as snorkeling on spectacular reefs, watching marine life and relaxing on board.

The boat is equipped for full comfort: you can enjoy the sun deck, lounge areas, jacuzzi (where available) and amazing ocean views throughout the expedition.

You will also share the experience with the divers and enjoy the unique atmosphere of a real liveaboard ocean expedition, even without a dive certification.

Yes. We can help you organize additional activities before or after your dive expedition, such as stays on local islands, resorts, excursions or experiences at the destination.

During the liveaboard, non-divers can join snorkeling activities and fully enjoy the boat and the sailing.

As for the price, an adjustment or discount for non-divers may apply, since they don’t use the daily dives included in the package. We always confirm it case by case depending on the expedition.

No, international flights are not included in our Kaptain Expeditions liveaboard packages.

However, our team can help you find and arrange the best flight options, optimizing arrival and departure times so they connect perfectly with boarding and your dive experience.
